Custom orthotics or insoles can make an enormous difference to your foot comfort and help alleviate a wide range of foot and bio-mechanical conditions.

To obtain the benefits of custom orthotics it is essential that they work successfully with your footwear which is why, at James Taylor & Son, our skilled orthopaedic shoemakers will work with both your orthotics and your shoes to ensure that they deliver the best possible combination of fit and support, outside of a fully bespoke solution.

Conditions that can be alleviated through our custom orthotics include

At James Taylor & Son we make two types of custom orthotic:

Prescription orthotics involve a visit to our shop to see one of our specialists.  They will typically assess your stance and gait, and take a pressure "blueprint" of your feet to establish what corrective features need to be built into your orthotics. They are then designed using our CAD technology to meet that exact prescription and fitted accurately into your shoes.  A prescription by an external clinical specialist can also be used for this work, or we can copy an existing orthotic design.

Comfort orthotics are designed to exactly fit the shape of your plantar surface, to provide complete comfort and support for your feet. They do not require an assessment and can be purchased online below. We send you a foam box and some simple instructions on how to take a foot impression, and then you return the box to us for scanning and insole design. It is a proven service and can be combined with the purchase of our ready-made Finn Comfort footwear.
